Contributors Guide

From OnePageFanWiki

This page is a general guide for editing this wiki. It's still a work in progress. If you have any questions or suggestions for this page, talk about it in the discord

Goals

  • We're currently focusing on fulfilling the core tasks of the wiki. Which is mostly miniatures and rule pages, as well cataloguing official releases and fanworks.
  • We're not currently doing advice or guide type content (such as the old Tactics category), past experience has shown that this quickly gets outdated or inaccurate.
  • The Quickplay Armies category is gone since it seems obsolete now that we have the community lists function on Army Forge.
  • Lore content is mostly limited until we have a better idea as to how we want to organize it.
  • Basically, before you make a new page, ask yourself if it properly fits in any of the existing categories. If not ask on the discord before proceeding.
  • Look at Wiki ToDo List if you're looking for something to work on.

Guidelines and tips

  • Make sure to spell the names of the OPR games correctly including the colon. For example in "Grimdark Future: Star Quest", note the space between Star and Quest
  • Do not share text from the Advanced Rulebook or other premium sources here. Descriptions of it is fine.
  • All the pages from the old wiki are archived in a separate namespace. You can find the old pages by adding "old:" in front of the page title in the URL, for example: OLD:Beastmen Miniatures

Rules

  • The existing Rules, but feel free to suggest what else could be useful here.

Miniatures Pages

  • Use High Elves Miniatures as an example of how a minis page should look.
  • When updating a minis page, it doesn't have to be perfect in one go. Just make sure the overall structure follows the following guidelines, details can be filled in later.
  • Link to faction page on top. As well as links to the store pages of the most relevant GW/Mantic collections
  • The main minis pages should only cover OPR, GW and Mantic (where relevant). Alternate Creators go on a separate page
    • use "Creator" instead of "Manufacturer"
    • Mini pages for Alternate Creators should be titled in the format: "Faction name - Creator Name". This way they'll be organized when users are looking at the category page. Example: High Elves - Heroes Infinite
    • If you make a page for an Alternate Creator, add a link to that page on the main minis page for that page in the appropriate Other Creators section
    • Also add your Alternate Creator page to "Category:Alternate Grimdark Future Miniatures" or "Category:Alternate Age of Fantasy Miniatures". But not the main categories.
  • Add an upgrade in parentheses if the minis represent a particular upgrade, for example: Alith Anar (Shadow Master)
    • Leave this off if it's obvious from the minis name, for example: Lord on Dragon
  • Link to the unit's MMF page for OPR, store pages for GW and Mantic.
  • If something is out of print, link to miniset.net instead, and put the entry in italics to mark that.
    • Miniset's search function isn't great, easier to google the name of the unit and add "miniset" to the search query
    • Not every OOP mini should be be added, only if it fills a particular niche that isn't otherwise represented. For example, see Alith Anar above
  • Put Age of Sigmar and Old World/WHFB minis on separate columns (Same for Horus Heresy?)
  • Use a notes column for clarifications
  • Remove the "Factions-Links" template, if it's still there, as it's obsolete (keep the "GAME-Factions" template below it)

Lore and Stories

  • For now we want to constrain ourselves to cataloguing official lore releases, without going too much into detail for now.

Misc

  • This category is mostly to archive some stuff. Maybe it will be expanded.
